Google Maps helps Thanksgiving Tuesday

Google Maps helps Thanksgiving Tuesday

Google Maps helps Thanksgiving!!! The folks at Google Maps used trends from past three years to help make your holiday plans a bit easier. How you ask? Well, Google Maps looked into what people were interested in and searching for most in the past three years during the holiday season and the results can help a bit in the future planning for all of us!

For detailed inside look you can check:

Check the post on the Google Official Blog Get ahead this Thanksgiving with Google Maps

Google Maps helps Thanksgiving Wednesday

For a summary and for your comfort, read on:

If you are driving out of town for the holidays, start driving on Tuesday (if possible), you will avoid more traffic prone Wednesday. For the drive back home choose Sunday instead of Saturday, which tends to be more busy.

Holiday Hours are here! Google Maps now has holiday hours for businesses. Be sure to check the business hours when searching for last minute needs, be it pies, ham or liquor! Check the closing time, it is much more convenient than getting there to find out it is closed and then having to search for another one.

  1. People searched for buffet restaurants most on Thanksgiving Day, in fact it was numero uno search term on Google Maps for past years. But, in Chicago….we searched for bars, indeed holidays are too much for many to handle plus Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a very big night our here (Chicago)…maybe the searches just used after midnight trend and got those results?
  2. Electronic stores, malls and outlet malls, appliances and Christmas trees are all on the Black Friday shopping list, according to the Google Maps statistics from past few years.

On the other hand, isn’t stress what Holidays are all about?! Whether you will use Google Maps or decide to get lost in a good holiday spirit….all the bests to You and Yours during this Holiday Season!

Google+ Update, Communities & Collections focus

Google+ Update

Google+ Update now focuses more on Communities and Collections

Google+ Update is finally here, after a lot of speculation during this year Google released the update for Google+ pages and now will focus more on Communities, where you can join a discussion on a topic of interest (be it zombies or wine, etc.) and Collections, where you can find information and learn about the topic of your interest.

On November 17, 2015 Eddie Kessler, Director of Streams commented Google’s Official Blog

Introducing the new Google+

There were two features they kept coming back to: Communities, which now average 1.2 million new joins per day, and Collections, which launched just five months ago and is growing even faster. Whether it’s the Nonfiction Addiction Community, where people can be found discussing the best in Crime or Travel storytelling, or the Watch Project Collection, where more than 40,000 people are following an antique watch hobbyist, these are the places on Google+ where people around the world are spending their time discovering and sharing things they love. And so we’ve reimagined Google+ to help them do that. Today, we’re starting to introduce a fully redesigned Google+ that puts Communities and Collections front and center. Now focused around interests, the new Google+ is much simpler. And it’s more mobile-friendly—we’ve rebuilt it across web, Android and iOS so that you’ll have a fast and consistent experience whether you are on a big screen or small one. You’ll need to opt-in to this new version of Google+ on the web to see the changes—check out our Google+ post for more on how to give it a try.

Of course, Communities and Collections is not where the update stops, the new Google+ makes it easier to post, search, connect, and keep up with great content in a fully redesigned home stream. They also made sure the content loads fast and works without a hitch on all devices, big and small.

Go ahead and give Google+ a try today, share your opinion of what you think. Google is always improving so for sure this is just one of the many updates to come, which we always welcome.

Google new structure now named Alphabet

Google new structure now named Alphabet

Google now under Alphabet

Google new structure now named Alphabet was announced Monday afternoon, Google is going through a major reorganization at the company, which will help them to grow even more. Started in 1998, Google, now employs over 400,000 people worldwide and the reorganization of the company will surely generate more opportunities and eventually make lives of many people better, which is a goal of Google founders.

Google's new structure now named Alphabet

Google’s new structure now named Alphabet

In Monday’s press release Larry Page outlined the goal of Alphabet as:

Getting more ambitious things done. Taking the long-term view. Empowering great entrepreneurs and companies to flourish. Investing at the scale of the opportunities and resources we see. Improving transparency and oversight of what we’re doing. Making Google even better through greater focus. And hopefully, as a result of all this, improving lives of as many people as we can.

Alphabet is now a new parent company for Google and all of Google ventures. All of the branches of Alphabet will have their own CEO. Alphabet’s CEO is now Larry Page, formerly Google’s CEO, with Sergey Brin, Google’s co-founder, being president of Alphabet. Google will be parented by Alphabet and led by Sundar Pichai, it will include YouTube, Maps, Search Ads, Apps and Android as well as Technical Infrastructure. Some of the other branches of Alphabet will be Google Capital, Google Ventures, Sidewalk Labs, Google X, Fiber, Nest and Calico.

Alphabet is still Google and is owned and operated by same people. It is an infrastructure change to improve the company and have better clarity as to what and how each branch is doing and to be able to pour or withdraw resources as needed.

The new structure will be introduced over time of the coming months, however, some of the major changes have been confirmed by Larry Page, as we outlined above.

This of course is a major step for Google, a positive step that will allow them to flourish even more, which we all look forward to see and experience.
